U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressman Anthony G. Brown praised Senate-passage late Thursday of H.R. 4890 that designates the United Postal Service Largo Post Office at 9801 Apollo Drive in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, as the "Wayne K. Curry Post Office Building.” Wayne Curry was Prince George’s County’s first African-American County Executive and a true public servant who brought economic empowerment to the county. He passed away in 2014, at the age of 63, after a battle with lung cancer.

University of Maryland’s head football coach D.J. Durkin has been fired after he was reinstated just two days ago on Tuesday, ESPN reported. President Wallace D. Loh announced Durkin’s departure in a statementissued Wednesday night after meeting with several groups and finding the majority of stakeholders “expressed serious concerns about Coach D.J. Durkin returning to the campus.” Durkin had been on administrative leave since August 11 following the death of 19-year-old offensive lineman Jordan McNair on June 13. McNair suffered from heatstroke during a workout on May 29.

Finally, the University of Maryland stumbled upon a good decision in the awful and tragic story of Jordan McNair. Football coach D.J. Durkin is gone, fired just 24 hours after the school’s board of regents announced it was reinstating him following the conclusion of an investigation into the June 13 death of McNair, a 19-year-old offensive lineman who collapsed and experienced seizures due to heatstroke at a May 29 team workout.

The University of Maryland has fired football coach DJ Durkin one day after his reinstatement, the school announced Wednesday evening. In a statement, president Wallace D. Loh said, "Yesterday, the University System of Maryland Board of Regents announced numerous recommendations, including employment decisions about specific personnel on our campus. I accepted the Board's recommendations. At the same time, I announced my retirement as president in June 2019.
