Brown Statement on President Trump’s Ban on Transgender Troops

March 27, 2018
Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement regarding President Trump’s ban on transgender troops in the military:

In an act of extreme cowardice and unrelenting bigotry, President Trump again tries to diminish the patriotism, courage and sacrifice of transgender Americans who have and will do their part in defending our nation. Transgender troops have been serving honorably for decades, and we should not force these Americans to again hide in the shadows. 19 countries - including many of our NATO allies - allow transgender people to serve openly with no impact on unit cohesion or lethality. This ban is costly, unnecessary, harms readiness and morale, and discriminatory. As a 30-year veteran, I firmly believe that any person who meets the physical and mental standards of our military should be afforded the patriotic opportunity to serve and sacrifice for our country.

Congress must reject this appalling and hateful decision.
