Brown Statement on Trump’s Executive Orders on Immigration

January 26, 2017
Press Release

Congressman Anthony Brown (MD-4) released the follow statement after President Trump issued executive orders regarding building a wall on the Mexico border and blocking federal funding from “sanctuary” states and cities:

“I was born in this country but my parents weren't. They came as immigrants, as have the thousands of immigrants from around the world that I represent in Congress. I know the important role immigrants play in strengthening our economy and enriching our communities and culture. Diversity is one our greatest strengths, and that is why my public service is based on a commitment to building a more inclusive and welcoming society.

“Unfortunately, President Trump doesn't get it. He turned his back on the American values of equality and inclusion. He promises to spend billions of our taxpayer dollars on a wall and is coercing local law enforcement and threatening local governments to profile certain people and check their papers. These actions will not fix our broken immigration system or make our country safer.

"The majority of Americans support comprehensive immigration reform and we should work together to pass a bill that includes a pathway to full and equal citizenship, protects our borders, and strengthens our economy."
