Five people were killed and two others were injured when a gunman opened fire inside the Capital Gazette building in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, just outside of Annapolis, police said. It was a “targeted attack” on the newspaper, according to police. The shooter entered the building with a shotgun, used smoke grenades and he looked for his victims while walking through the office, police said. Read more »

Five people were shot dead and others injured in what police described as a “targeted attack” on a newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland on Thursday. Congressman Anthony Brown, whose district includes the newspaper’s office, told the Guardian he was “deeply saddened and troubled”. “Too many times around the country, in such a short period of time,” he said, “churches, theaters and today in a newsroom.” Read more »

AAMC Break Ground For Mental Health Hospital

ANNAPOLIS, MD - From Anne Arundel Medical Center: Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) has broken ground on the construction of its mental health hospital. During the groundbreaking ceremony, held Wednesday, June 20, hospital officials also announced the facility will be named the J. Kent McNew Family Medical Center. To commemorate the groundbreaking, longtime supporters of the project, including Congressman John Sarbanes, Congressman Anthony Brown, Maryland Secretary of Health Robert Neall, Maryland House Speaker Michael Busch, Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh, and the offices of Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin, joined AAMC President and CEO Victoria Bayless and Board of Trustees Chair Gary Jobson. Delay for proposed DISA elimination clears key hurdle

A measure intended to delay the Defense Information Systems Agency’s proposed elimination was added to the House’s annual defense spending bill Tuesday. But will it work? That’s complicated. Rep. Anthony Brown, D-Md., said his amendment to the proposed fiscal 2019 defense appropriations bill would bar the Pentagon from spending money to draft plans to transfer DISA’s functions elsewhere in the Defense Department.
