Congressman Anthony Brown: Lives Depend on State Leaders Acting to Stem Rising Infections
Washington,
July 23, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement in response to warnings from Dr. Deborah Birx, a leader of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, that Baltimore and other cities were seeing concerning rises in COVID-19 positivity rates, requiring “aggressive” action to mitigate further outbreaks. Governor Hogan said yesterday the state has “been trending in a great direction”: “Despite the desire from Governor Hogan and others to declare victory and downplay rising cases, hospitalizations and deaths, we are not yet finished with the worst of this virus. New data should lead us to pause, and reassess the single-minded push for both our state and country to reopen and return to normal. Complacency at this moment could have severe consequences. We need a statewide plan which must include more testing and faster turnaround of results, more effective contact tracing that identifies and quarantines positive cases and new restrictions in order to safeguard the public and stem the rising tide of infections. We cannot do that if we aren’t being honest about the facts on the ground.” ### |
