Congressman Anthony Brown: President Trump Has No Strategy on Iran

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Armed Services Committee Vice Chair and 30-year Army veteran Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement on the Trump Administration’s plans to reinstate United Nations “snapback” sanctions on Iran: “Under President Trump’s failed leadership, the United States is alone, isolated and weak. The Trump administration’s continued attempts to undermine the Iran Nuclear deal, even after abandoning this agreement, threatens the United Nations Security Council as an institution, the stability of the Middle East and could pave the way for a nuclear Iran. “Our allies continue to uphold this agreement. President Trump chose to forgo all leverage our country once had to force Iran to stay in compliance with the deal, while engaging our allies to challenge Iran’s malign behavior, human rights abuses and state sponsorship of terror. There is no strategy here, only egocentric grievance characteristic of President Trump’s foreign policy chaos. “Escalation and miscalculation could lead this country into yet another costly war in the Middle East. Only through dialogue, diplomacy and engagement with the world can we ensure peace and the security of the American people.” ### |
