Brown, Hoyer Applaud Fire Prevention Funding for Prince George’s County

Many rural areas in Prince George’s County do not have an adequate water supply. These areas are not served by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission or other municipal water supply systems, complicating Prince George’s County firefighting efforts. The installation of the tanks and dry hydrants will improve fire suppression services and help lower insurance rates for home and business owners.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) and Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) applauded the inclusion of $1.35 million in funding for water tanks to assist the Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department as part of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations bill.

“The dedicated men and women of the Prince George’s Fire Department put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities. This funding will ensure they have the tools they need so they can continue saving lives and livelihoods, particularly in rural areas of Prince George’s County,” said the lawmakers. “The inclusion of this funding will make residents safer and ensure our communities remain the best place to live, work and raise a family.”

Funding for this project was requested by Rep. Brown and Leader Hoyer through the House Committee on Appropriations’ Community Project Funding process. Each Member is limited to no more than 10 Community Project Funding requests. Combined earmarks are capped at 1% of all discretionary spending.
