Congressman Brown: Workers Knew They Had A Champion in Richard Trumka

“He was a giant, the third generation of a long proud line of coal miners, a decent man who was thinking about working men and women every moment of every day.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) released the following statement on the passing of Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO:

“Workers knew they had a champion in Richard Trumka. He was a giant, the third generation of a long proud line of coal miners, a decent man who was thinking about working men and women every moment of every day. His sudden passing is a tragic loss for the international labor movement. Throughout his long career, Richard was on the frontlines and picket lines as he fought for better working conditions, better wages, fairness and recognition for the often-unsung workers who built our country and keep our communities moving. Through his work and advocacy, Richard improved the lives of millions and served as workers’ voice in the halls of power, never forgetting who he was fighting for.

“My prayers and thoughts are with his family. It’s on us now to pick up the torch and carry on Richard’s legacy to ensure dignity for all workers.”
