Maryland House Delegation Secures $500 Million for FBI Project in FY2023 Spending Bill

"We remain confident that the Maryland sites at Greenbelt and Landover offer the best location for the FBI headquarters and look forward to GSA making a site selection this fall."

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressmen Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Anthony Brown (MD-04), Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02), John Sarbanes (MD-03), Kweisi Mfume (MD-07), Jamie B. Raskin (MD-08), and David Trone (MD-06) announced they secured $500 million toward a new, consolidated FBI headquarters in the Fiscal Year 2023 Financial Services & General Government Appropriations legislation. The bill also includes language that requires the Administration to use this and previous federal spending on a new, fully consolidated FBI headquarters at one of the three sites currently under consideration by GSA: two Maryland sites, Greenbelt and Landover, and one site in Virginia, Springfield.

“We are proud to secure the inclusion of $500 million toward a new, consolidated FBI headquarters at one of the three sites under consideration by the General Services Administration in the FY23 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act," said the lawmakers. "We remain confident that the Maryland sites at Greenbelt and Landover offer the best location for the FBI headquarters and look forward to GSA making a site selection this fall. This funding will ensure that the Biden Administration has the resources it needs once it selects a site to move forward with construction of the new headquarters this fall. The FBI will soon have a headquarters that meets its security requirements and allows it to carry our its vital national security mission."

Earlier this year, the Maryland Delegation secured language in the FY 2022 Omnibus spending law that restarted the process for selecting a site for a new, fully consolidated FBI headquarters at one three sites previously under consideration - Greenbelt, Landover, and Springfield. GSA is currently reviewing the three sites and expected to make a final site selection this Fall. In addition, President Biden's 2023 Budget included a provision calling for a 7,500 employee campus that provides a suitable and secure headquarters that allows the FBI to protect our national security.
