 – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) and Congressman Anthony G. Brown (MD-04) issued the following statement after Republican appropriators voted against an amendment to strike language from the Fiscal Year 2018 budget that would rescind $200 million from the fully consolidated FBI headquarters relocation project. Congressmen Hoyer and Brown sent a letter to House appropriators on Wednesday requesting their support for the amendment. On Tuesday, the Trump Administration announced their intent to cancel the current request for proposals to construct the new fully consolidated FBI headquarters.

“We are extremely disappointed that Republicans on the House Appropriations Committee defeated Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger’s amendment, which would have struck language from the Fiscal Year 2018 budget that rescinds $200 million from the fully consolidated FBI headquarters relocation project. While we are encouraged that Congressman Ruppersberger’s other amendment, which directs the General Services Administration to develop an alternative plan for the consolidated FBI headquarters within 60 days of enactment, was approved by the Committee and included in the legislation, there is much more work to be done to move forward with the project.

“A new, fully consolidated FBI headquarters is critical to the safety and security of our nation. If the Trump Administration or Republicans in Congress are serious about our national security, they will move forward with this project without delay. We will continue to work with our colleagues in Congress, as well as state and local officials, to get the consolidated FBI headquarters relocation project back on track.”
