Outrageous to cancel projects in Maryland in order to fulfill Trump campaign promise
Congressman Anthony Brown (MD-04), Vice Chair of the House Armed Services Committee and 30-year combat veteran, released the following statement after being notified by the Department of Defense that the Pentagon will delay important construction projects at military installations in Maryland, including at Joint Base Andrews, in order to build President Trump’s border wall. “It is outrageous that President Trump is abusing his power to cancel military construction projects in Maryland and around the world in order to fulfill a campaign promise. This will hurt morale, degrade readiness and make America less safe. President Trump should not build his ineffective, xenophobic vanity project on the backs of our servicemembers and military families. “When we face critical challenges at home and abroad, stealing military construction funds and the continued unprecedented use of active-duty soldiers on the southwest border hurts our ability to respond to real emergencies. It’s reprehensible, irresponsible, and reveals just how little the current Commander-in-Chief understands our Armed Forces and the national security challenges that we are confronted with.” |
