STAY IN AFRICA: The top two leaders of the House Armed Services Committee are the latest members to call on Defense Secretary Mark Esper to halt his plan to draw down troops fighting extremists in Africa, Defense News reports.

“A decrease in our investment now may result in the need for the United States to reinvest at many more times the cost down the road,” Reps. Adam Smith (D-Wash.) and Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) write, after urging Esper to “carefully consider the adverse implications of reducing our force posture in Africa.”

Senate Armed Services Chairman Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) piled on, warning steep cuts to troops in Africa "would be short-sighted."
